Jobs for Life Course
Joblessness attacks one’s very identity and dignity. It can lead to poverty, crime, homelessness, depression, substance abuse, and much more.
Since 2017, we have offered Jobs for Life classes alongside local churches and organizations in order to tackle the problem of joblessness. Class participants learn a Biblical view of work. They learn the tools to overcome obstacles and to find and keep meaningful work, learning alongside their champions who help them succeed. Throughout the 15 week course, the focus of Jobs for LIfe is always on identity, character, and community.

Partnering
When I was asked to become a champion with Jobs for Life in January 2020, I was intrigued by the chance to encourage a student as she bravely pursued new employment. Partnering with Jobs for Life gives me the privilege of supporting others as they enhance their skills and resources in securing desirable employment. I have participated in two Jobs for Life classes so far, and each one has been a gift in getting to know the students, learning their stories, celebrating their successes, and seeing them grow as they move toward new opportunities.

Champions Make The Difference!
Both Jobs for Life™ and Faith & Finances™ are built on relationships. We talk a lot about relationships with God, with others, and with ourselves. So, we incorporate one-on-one relationships into the class by pairing each participant with an ally.
Champions are mutual learners on the journey with our class participants. You encourage, advocate for, and are a supportive friend to the participant as he or she embarks on a journey of growth.
Who can be a champion?
For our Jobs for Life™ and Faith & Finances™ classes the qualifications are simple:
- Follow Jesus, with a vision for His kingdom and reconciliation
- Have a passion to see low-income people grow spiritually and economically
- Be humbly open to new friendships, even ones across socioeconomic/cultural lines
- Attend a training before the course begins
