The MercyWorks Program has been one of our longest-running ministries within Friendship House. Formerly known as The Food Pantry, MercyWorks was given its name because we are witnesses each day to God’s mercy working in our lives. As Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us: the Lord’s mercies never cease, “they are new every morning.” So as witnesses to God’s mercy working, we know that mercy works!
For decades, neighbors visited our building for supplemental food, hygiene items, clothing and more to help them get through the week. During times of crisis, it provided real relief. Friendship House is committed to continuing to provide relief to our neighbors who are suffering from an acute crisis.
In 2025, Friendship House leadership decided to make a change to the weekly food pantry model within MercyWorks. In order to be more intentional with the entirety of our mission—to provide gospel centered ministries of both mercy AND empowerment—our food pantry will be open to the families that are actively enrolled in our programs and classes, such as Talitha Koum After-School Program, Faith & Finances, English classes, Jobs for Life, Good Neighbor Teams, etc. We are deliberate about walking alongside families in relationship, and this best happens through our ongoing programs, as opposed to the public food pantry model. Therefore, families within the aforementioned programs will be able to receive regular food from our pantry in order to assist them as they work towards stability.
